Summary

Reporting to the CEO, the VP of Engineering will have overall responsibility for technology direction and lead the technology team. This person will build and develop a highly effective team. The ideal candidate will be both a progressive and practical thinker with a great understanding of the ever evolving technology landscape. They will be a good decision maker - often by way of asking the right questions and synthesizing information, rather than having all the answers already. They will help move the business forward by comprehending and translating between technology and business factors/audiences. They will thrive in a rapidly changing, “chair on fire” environment where the 80/20 rule prevails and take great pride in accomplishing what others say can’t be done!

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities for this role are:

People Management

  • Hiring, Managing, Developing and Retaining the team
  • Prioritization and resource management
  • Work Processes / Technical Workflow / Cross Functional Workflow

Stakeholder Management

  • Stakeholders include technology team, all business functions, & clients
  • Communication - translating between diverse audiences
  • Managing expectations (client and internal)

Driving Decisions

  • Technology Architecture, Prioritization, Process, Business Requirements, Scoping
  • Help identify appropriate enhancements, conduct due diligence and evolve our technology

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years in a technical capacity (prior hands-on coding experience) with minimum 3 years managing a tech team
  • Previous experience building, scaling, organizing a technology function in a startup or similar environment
  • Ability to ask the right questions and clearly articulate business rationale
  • Decisive with a bias for action; results oriented
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Creative - innovative problem solving skills
  • B.S. Computer Science, Software Engineering, MIS or equivalent work experience

Preferred​ Qualifications

  • Prior experience in eCommerce
  • Experience delivering technology solutions in a high growth environment where priorities shift quickly
  • Experience with Scrum/Agile environments
  • Project Management
